At the Cusps of Orange Damask
What will rhyme with a period?
Not even a bard on his best behavior.
Within the depth of English, the Welsh find no partners;
And no matter your width of the dictionary,
Resources for a wasp will prove scarce.
Take such a pseudo-line as this:
Try as you might, by the
Eighth no couplet has arrived.
Or by September, while still there is warmth,
The ninth poetic beggar… is yet out to sea without a wind in sail,
Where his bark’s bilge could not collect any more
Flotsam and jetsam for a sonnet (or even a terza rima):
Thus, perfecting doggerel, to cease one line short.
